The tide of individual and race interest ebbs and flows. It has always been thus, it will continue to be so; two psychological facts produce this perpetual motion in mental mechanics: --- the natural aversion to monotony which familiarity produces, and on the other hand, the desire for something better in the face of the tyranny of custom, popular opinion and social oppression.

Suppression of the human spirit, mind or body, is most often sought with violent means. The all too habitual lash of intolerance which prompts such acts is only curbed with through the ameliorating influence of education of the body, mind, and spirit.

The heart's of the strongest are often swayed, not through the torture of body or mind, but through fear for their progeny. Even good people subject to exceeding pressure, fear for the future of their children such that either they bend to the will of the tyrant, or wholesale revolt becomes inevitable.

It is thus that through thoughtful understanding of the cogs that drive human experience, the few who act from knowledge tempered with compassion, produce the wisdom which opens the door to harmony with the keys bestowed by those fine souls who teach us the way of sharing love and the method that produces peace and prosperity for all.

Such a fluctuation is illustrated in the regular swing between idealism and materialism, the literature of being in terms of spirit, the other dwelling in terms of matter. The flow of idealistic interpretation explored by such thinkers as Plato, Plotinus, Berkeley, Kant; alternates with explorations of materialism by such as Epicurus, Zeno, Spencer, Haeckel.

While yesterday the eyes of the people found pleasure in pursuit of wealth without regard for others, today there is a widespread and thoroughgoing revolt against unbridled materialism with its "Gospel of Prosperity" that would uplift the few at the expense of the many in a dance of death through war, famine, plague and penury,

According to Carlyle, the truth is found within the resounding "Yes!" to shared success through the calm and scientific understanding of ourselves.

"Within the Worship of Silence the soul is salved and we find the truth of our oneness with the sacred. From the light within shines forth the truth that: "Not what I have, but what I do, is my kingdom."

Thus the student of history will discover

"In books lies the soul of the whole Past Time; the articulate audible voice of the Past, when the body and material substance of it has altogether vanished like a dream." Thus equipped with the guidance of souls past, will the reader find safe passage in the present to a finer future.

One of the forms in which successful revolt manifests itself is in the comprehension then application of mental force for the manipulation and alteration of physical conditions.

Mind has gone up a good many points in the intellectual stock exchange, while matter is away down below par and selling slow. Thought-force has suddenly become a popular therapeutic agency.

But to those surprised by these teaching, who have not known such methods, surprise has to do only with their current popularity.

These method are not new; they were but known to the few. Trace its path through the centuries --- it is there.
