THE world has outgrown orthodox theology; but it has not outgrown the need of belief in a living, personal God, in man's freedom on earth, and in his continued personal existence after death. Nations have always been able to endure disbelief by individuals and by groups of individuals, but no nation has been able to endure for long the discard of faith by the mass of the people. John Bascom is a leader among those who have given the world a new theology, a new statement of faith. He stood in the direct path to truth. Perhaps it is inaccurate to describe his position as standing because he was always on the march and moving in the right direction.
