It is necessary for the student to look up every marginal reference before reading the note upon it. When other than the King James version of the Bible is used the reference is given.

We have purposely avoided the use of names throughout this volume, in order that the attention of the student might not be withdrawn from the subject. Quotation marks alone will indicate thoughts taken from others.

We are indebted for many of the historical references, to the Dictionary of the Bible, edited by James Hastings, M.A., D.D.
