God saw everything good, hence to Him the ground was good; for the "sake" of the divinity of the whole, the ground was always good unto God. But Adam had hearkened unto the voice of his wife, which was, that good and evil were alike good for food, a thing desirable to make one wise. This was partaking of desire to be made wise by observation. Everyone who believes in good and evil, partakes of the same desire, and sees what he believes to be true in all things. Anything that is believed to have evil connected with it, is to that belief cursed, hence the Lord God said, "cursed is the ground for thy beliefs sake."

Thorns and thistles are the undesirable conditions sensed from the belief that there are two powers working in us, either for good or for evil. "Adam" stands for the whole race, for mankind.. The works of the serpent and all the dark conditions which they include stand for all untrue mental conditions everywhere, at all times; conditions that contradict the real, true nature of God.
