"Now there arose a new King over Egypt who knew not Joseph." Material sense and its ruling laws at first make fair promises to our thoughts that turn to dwell in it, but later on must prove a failure. It promises a consciousness of good, it gives lack of all things. Spiritual Law is the same, yesterday, today and forever. Not so man's law. Scarcely are we settled in and governed by one ruling opinion, e 'er another and a very opposite one rises up, and claims that we must serve it or die. We think of this when we hear of a new means of health, a new law to govern us, a new King ire Egypt. Under the succession of new "kings" in personal sense, new burdens have been laid upon us, one after another new laws, new fears, have arisen in the external until we serve numberless health laws and are under the greatest of slavery. We cannot sleep comfortably, we cannot eat in peace, we cannot walk, ride or sit still in safety. Yet we must sleep and eat to live. Who can live without eating? And yet, just as often eating kills us! This is certainly the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil; we are partaking of it daily and the outer made a cause enslaves us more and more.

And they, these kings, made their lives " bitter with hard bondage." Stinging remedies, bitter medicines, operations, cruel laws saying, "Disobey me and suffer." Yet, obeying, we suffer! Slaves
