Joshua was beginning to have a higher vision than Moses had; he was more trusting; he led the children of Israel into Canaan. He was a follower of Moses but went beyond.

The glory of the Lord is always on the mountain (clear consciousness). Moses had to stay on the mountain until his highest vision was realized.

First step toward building of temple. The Ark was a national not merely a tribal sanctuary and its loss to them was a national calamity. "Ark" stands for the presence of God in sanctuary, a symbol. Symbols are concessions to our ignorance.
