Jer. 1: 7

Jer. 9: 1

Jeremiah, when called to the prophetical office, pleaded his youth.

Is anyone called or chosen? No, the choosing is on our part, the chosen are those who choose.

The prophet was considered inferior in elegance to Isaiah. He predicted calamities and grieved over the judgments to befall Israel. Yet, to him, backsliding Israel was justified above treacherous Judah. In Jer. 13:25 he gives the reason for his people's condition, "Because thou hast forgotten me and trusted in falsehood." Is not that reason enough? Forgotten the Source, our very life, and trusted in that which is not true.
