in the synagogue. There are no direct quotations from it in the New Testament, although in Revelation there are several allusions and parallel pas- sages which show that it was known to the writer. Ezekiel introduces himself in the first chapter, 1:1-3, he was contemporary with Jeremiah and Daniel.  

As the result of his labors the people improved in character toward the close of the captivity. They ceased from the worship of idols and re- turned to the worship of God. Because of his beautiful conceptions and extensive knowledge, he has been compared with Homer.    

Ezek. 3: 16-21

Gives the duties of a prophet. We have an idea that a prophet only foretells events, but his office includes much more than that. A prophet is a watchman, to watch over and warn Israel of sin and to offer rewards. This is all on a low plane of unfoldment, but while we sin, or think we can sin or not sin, this contains a lesson for us.

Ezekiel's prophecies are given in visions and strange images. " The heavens opened and I saw visions of God." The first vision is a whirlwind from the north, a great cloud and a fire. (There is always fire and light in these visions.)  

First vision a peculiar figure. Only in the transparent atmosphere of the presence and power of God can Ezekiel's vision be understood.
