will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord."

When the command was repeated, Jonah arose and went unto Nineveh and cried unto the people "Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown." Jonah kept his vow, unwillingly, but the people of Nineveh believed him and proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and did not do unto them that he had said.

Jonah cannot release himself from his personality, as he sits in his booth, "till he might see what would become of the city." He was pleased when the vine grew up over his booth to shade him, but when the worm destroyed it and the sun and wind beat upon his head, he fainted.

"Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd?" In Jonah's mental condition he was angry with the gourd and everything else. He felt that God was making a great mistake in saving these people. It made him lose all interest in life. Divine Love says to him, " Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hadst not labored, neither madest it grow --- and should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than six score thousand persons that cannot discern between
