Eden and Canaan are the perfect consciousness towards which this immature thought is pushing. In the Garden of Eden, or the perfect consciousness in which thought is placed, Truth says, "Turn only to the Spiritual idea of life; do not look upon form as a source; all your good, all your wisdom must be found in Spirit. In the day, light of understanding, that you turn to another source but Spirit, and receive your conception of life from the appearance, you shall surely die." Such turning from Spirit obscures our vision for the time of that understanding and banishes thought from consciousness of its place in Spirit, from a knowledge of its relation to Spirit; "Therefore, the Lord God sent him forth from the Garden of Eden to till the ground," or to work out his own belief in material life and substance. Man has chosen to judge from appearances, to turn to the outer for his supply; now he must go on in that belief until his own experience, "the end thereof," proves to him its fallacy.

Matt. 10: 34

A flaming sword keeps the way of the Tree of Life. When man partakes of this tree, he can reach it only by passing through the "sword."

The flaming sword is a symbol having the same significance as the "consuming fire." Each soul must pass through these to reach consciousness of Eternal Life in Spirit; every false conception we have held of life as being anything below the
