Infinite must he cut off or burned away from that thought which would lay hold upon the eternal and unchanging idea of life.

The serpent of desire bids us seek our wisdom and good in the external in opinions and beliefs of men. We first look upon, then long for, then embrace, and so "comes sin into the world and all our woe." Not by the mistake of one, but by the mistake of our own immature thought, turning daily to the external as a source.

The tree of the knowledge of good and evil was not in the garden of Eden. The "Tree" of which our thought is directed to take is the true idea of life as judged from the standpoint of Spirit. The "Tree" of which thought is forbidden to take, is the opposite conception of life based upon outer things.

God made both Canaan and Egypt. He made all things Invisible and Visible. The command is that thought shall always look to and be guided by the Invisible, to know Mind as the only Power, Life or Substance. The visible will come forth then in beauty and perfection but the visible is not to usurp God's place, the first place in your thoughts, it is not to be put as cause, which Spirit alone is.
