The name of the second river is Gihon Second, Shani, means to repeat, to do over again. It is twofold and in God's relation to finished creation it stands for the fact of the individual mentality's receiving from God and giving the same expression, its conceiving the truth of God and giving birth to the same. Gihon is that which bursts forth into constant activity, hence this twofold river has been called the "double tongue". The individual receiving from the Omnipresent Spirit and giving forth the same is symbolized in respiration the lungs, twofold in structure, continually repeating the process of inhalation and exhalation. So it stands for God breathing the breath of life into man, not from under heaven, but from within Himself.

The land of Ethiopia is the home of the most primitive tribes, the river compasseth the whole land, the spiritual-meaning of which is the ability of the Lord God to breathe the breath of the spirit of life within and to be the life of everything, including the simplest most rudimentary forms of life. Primitive pertains to the beginning or origin, or to early times --- original, first, as the primitive state of Adam.
