understanding which moves thought to look to the visible or form as a source, instead of to the Invisible.

It is hard for us to understand that the Inner, or Invisible, is All Cause; that from it alone each individual must receive all things, hence that we cannot, in Truth, find any cause in the external.

When we ignorantly claim that the visible is a Cause, and seek to gain our good from thence, our Israel, or Spiritual thought has turned to Egypt.

Today we find ourselves in Egypt, dependent upon material things, guided by human opinions of good and ill. How did we come there? Just in the same way that Israel went there. First, Israel sent to Egypt and bought corn. It is reasonable to think that in this first turning to Egypt for help no idea of ever going into Egypt to dwell was entertained for a moment. Israel brought the corn out of Egypt and fed on it in. Canaan. Have we not been trying to dwell in Spirit and yet be helped and sustained by what material sense calls good? Have we not our Sundays and prayer meetings in spiritual consciousness and our everyday life, perhaps, unconsciously given to material sense?

Can we live both in Canaan and Egypt? This is the first step that will lead us into bondage in Egypt. Jacob was doing this only as a temporary relief from the famine. So on earth our spiritual
