from him, but waits to bring him up again. " Thou wilt not leave my soul in hell." Hell is the purifying process in which God as "a consuming fire" is purging each soul of its false conceptions. Truth knows that no one will stay eternally in such depths of ignorance, for God is omnipotent. Sooner or later every one will turn again to Spirit and find therein its fulness and freedom. "Every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess."

When thought turns from Spirit as the only Source and goes into what personal sense offers as help, Israel leaves Canaan for Egypt. But Spirit is ever with it, even while it turns away, Spirit's Presence is the drawing power that will bring it home again. The home of Spiritual thought (Israel) is consciousness of Spirit (Canaan). In other words, from the Bible we are forcibly told that Spirit does not in any sense endorse the turning of Israel from Canaan to Egypt, nor promise any blessing upon such a departure.
