that is claimed in that belief. To strike at the
"first-born," is to reach and annihilate the very
basis or reason for any material claim.
The "first-born" of material sense is the claim
of Life, Substance and Power in a material source.
That we have Life, Substance and Power from the
flesh, is the "first-born" claim that originates
every other fleshly claim.
The death of this "first-born" then, is the destruction of the very foundation of misapprehension, or belief in materiality. This destruction
does not touch Israel, for it has place only in material sense, but it is the final stroke that frees Israel
from the claim of bondage to the external as cause.
Israel is shown how the angel of death shall
strike the Egyptian household, but shall pass over
the houses of the Israelites, and in faith they
prove their understanding of this by celebrating
the Passover, before it has taken place! So our
consciousness, trusting in Spirit, sees and celebrates in its thought the understanding that destruction and death do not touch anything Spiritual, but, like an angel of mercy, destroy all those
claims which hold us in captivity. With equal
faith, we celebrate this truth before we have seen
the Passover take place. We can rejoice in Truth
revealed to our consciousness even before it is
demonstrated to our eyes. Faith, the evidence of
