The books of Samuel, Kings and Chronicles relate to the same histories, and often one explains what is not plain in another.

I. Chronicles contains an abstract of the history of the time it was written. It is an abridgment of all sacred history, especially from the origin of the Jewish Nation to the return from the first captivity.

II. Chronicles contains historical particulars not mentioned elsewhere.

I. and II. Chronicles are reviews of history of the kings of Judah and Israel.

The first king of Israel slew himself. With each of us there is some king ruling our thought, though we may not want it to. Something rules our thought or we should never show a sign of imperfection. Whatever it is, it will slay itself in time, but not until we are ready to give it up. It helps us to read the Bible, and we shall not be afraid to read that God changed his mind or that God's chosen people did wrong (those that thought they were chosen), when we know how the voice of God has been interpreted according to the consciousness of the interpreter.

God did not want David to build a temple. David said there is just one thing he desired, " To dwell in the house of the Lord forever." The house of the Lord is the presence of God; to dwell
