How often it is said that the horses and chariots shall fall. "Woe to them that trust in horses" means, woe to them that put their faith in the strength of the external instead of in God. In connection with Hosea 1:7, read Zech. 4:6 and 9:10, Isaiah 1:21, Micah 5:10. It means trust not in externals.

That is the true strength.

A description of how the children of God have gone after other helpers than the spirit of God.

Here this harlot is called "the faithful city."

The city that becomes a harlot is the mother that seems to have departed after false Gods.

"I will hedge up thy way with thorns." When we feel the prick of thorns, we think it is cruel, but it is the Spirit trying to keep us from going after strange Gods.
