Luke 22:35-38

"When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye anything?" And they said, "Nothing." Then he said unto them, "But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his script: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me," then added, "for the things concerning me have an end." When he learned that they had two swords, he said, "It is enough." In the contemplation of the events to follow that night. Jesus knew it would be very likely that his followers would have to cut their way, through the mobs, out of Jerusalem. In verses 40 and 46, Jesus said unto them, "Pray, that ye enter not into temptation." The great Teacher knew that it would be a difficult time for the faithful Galileans who had followed him, because they did not understand the work he was to accomplish. His path was clearly defined, and after the last struggle in the Garden, he never faltered. The Garden of Gethsemane stands for the surrender of the personal, to the universal, or Divine will; that is the struggle we all have to pass through. The Garden is the first step; the last step in this surrender is the crucifixion. It is only personal opinions and beliefs that are crucified. This must all have been true of Jesus. On the cross he cried, as we do over our crosses, "Why bast thou forsaken me?" That cry
