In this night of waiting, the "pillar" that was
light to Israel was clouds and darkness to
Pharaoh's host.
"And the children of Israel went into the midst
of the sea, upon dry ground, and the Egyptians
pursued and went in after them to the midst of the
sea." Now, indeed, is Israel brought to the severest test of faith, for even after obedience to Divine
command, having passed right into the midst of
the sea on each side, holding to their true foundation, still they see the relentless pursuit of old.
enemies! There is yet something more for Spiritual thought to do. " Stretch out thine hand
(again) over the sea --- and the Lord overthrew the
Egyptians in the midst of the sea."
If Israel had once faltered here, their hope
would have fled. Again must the strong confidence
in their God-given power and possibility be lifted
up in their own consciousness, if they would
see the final destruction of the claims that held
them in bondage for so long.
Pharaoh's host following, even upon the dry
ground of the sea through which Israel has passed,
shows how persistently our thought turns back to
find ignorant beliefs at its very heels, even trying
to attend us when we have found the ground for
our perfect faith in Divine Power.
If our thought will not fear, but will hold persistently to our foundation for true knowledge, all
